Liposuction

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure which has been used in the United States for almost 20 years to remove localized collections of fatty tissues. Many people, despite diet and discipline, are prone to specific areas of excess fatty tissue which are exercise resistant. Liposuction can be used safely to contour the hips and thighs, arms, abdomen, knees, buttocks, back and even the chin and neck. The entire procedure is performed through small, inconspicuous incisions. With sensible diet and exercise after the surgery, the results from the surgery are permanent.

Who is a good candidate for this procedure?

Good candidates for liposuction are men and women who are of average weight with specific areas of extra fat. The procedure is most effective in patients that have healthy, elastic skin. If you have excess skin, you may require a skin tightening procedure such as a tummy tuck, to obtain the desired results.

What is the recovery like from this procedure?

Side effects from the surgery include bruising, swelling and numbness. Depending on the extent of the surgery, most of my patients resume their normal routine in one to two weeks. We generally recommend waiting 3 to 4 weeks before resumption of vigorous exercise. Full recovery from the swelling and bruising may take 1 to 3 months.

In addition to treating Atlanta thigh liposuction patients, the surgeons of Artisan Plastic Surgery have also helped many Atlanta tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and thigh/buttock lift patients. Please visit these pages to learn more about the other body contouring procedures offered.
