Collagen
What is Collagen?
Collagen is found throughout the body and provides structural support to many different tissues. Aging, diseases and injury can weaken our natural collagen fibers. Bovine collagen is very similar to human collagen and can be injected into areas where our own collagen has been weakened, such as wrinkles and scars.
Who is a good candidate for collagen?
Collagen is particular effective in smoothing delicate frown and smile lines, the creases at the corners of the eyes and around the lips, and correcting scars. You will be given a skin test to determine if you are an appropriate candidate for this treatment. If you have a history of allergies to other bovine products, you cannot receive injectable collagen. Only about 3% of patients show sensitivity to the test.
What is the recovery like?
There is no down time with collagen treatments. There will be some puffiness of the treated areas, but this is temporary and will resolve in a few days.
