Last week, I had the experience of a lifetime when I went to Hollywood with my husband, Kent, for the world premiere of the Clint Eastwood movie Richard Jewell. The movie was partially based on my husband and co-author Kevin Salwen’s historical non-fiction book, The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, The FBI, The Media, and Richard Jewell, The Man Caught in the Middle, so we were invited to walk the red carpet!

Looking Great in Time for a Big Event

Every day I consult with patients who seek facial rejuvenation prior to a Big Event—a wedding, a reunion, a presentation, a family gathering. Our mission at Artisan Plastic Surgery and Artisan Beauté is to help our patients be picture-perfect ready for any event, but more importantly, be happy every day when they look in the mirror.

Over my 20 years as a plastic surgeon, I have learned to be very patient with the process of rejuvenation. Just like training for a marathon, it is not something that happens overnight. It takes discipline and commitment to achieve the best possible outcome.

However, there are times when we face a deadline for looking our best, and it’s appropriate to make a beauty sprint. Here is the regimen that I followed to get my Hollywood glow in time for walking the red carpet:

1. Daily Skin Care

Every day I was dedicated to a skincare regimen that focused on hydration and tightening my skin. I had a customized protocol of Biologique Recherche products:

  • Cleanse: Lait VIP O2
  • Tone: Lotion P50V, a celebrity cult favorite
  • Treat: VG Tensil (firming serum), Serum A-Glyca (anti-aging serum), Amniotique (hydrating serum),
  • Moisturize: Crème Splendide, a hydrating and anti-aging moisturizer,
  • Finishing Serum: Serum Grand Millesime, a finishing and hydrating serum.

2. Injectables at 8 Weeks Prior

Eight weeks before the event I had my fillers and Botox with Maryellen. 6-8 weeks is the perfect time frame before an event because the Botox will still be active, and the fillers will have settled perfectly. There is also time for a touch up if necessary.

Maryellen used 7 syringes of various dermal fillers and 40 units of Botox. Her focus was on smoothing my frown lines and forehead with the Botox, plus lifting my cheeks, contouring my jaw line, hiding my marionette lines, and plumping my lips with the fillers. Despite all that product, I still had a natural look—just better!

3. Broad Band Light & Laser Treatments at 6 Weeks Prior

Six weeks before the red carpet I had BBL (broad band light) and the 1064 laser treatment with Paul. The focus of these treatments was to correct brown spots, erase small blood vessels, smooth my skin and build collagen. I had no down time from the BBL or 1064. (Ideally, I would have had one or two more of these treatments before the event but ran out of time.)

4. Hydrafacial at 1 Week Prior

One week before the event, I had a luxurious HydraFacial combined with an Intraceuticals oxygen treatment with Meg. These two devices magically cleanse the skin, erase pores, hydrate and plump the skin. This is the treatment of choice for many movie stars prior to their big events. Literally, my skin was glowing after my session.

5. Biologique Facial 2 Days Prior

Two days before I went to Los Angeles, I had a signature Biologique facial with Bisma. This luxurious facial uses amazing products and distinctive techniques to cleanse and hydrate the skin, while lifting the muscles of the face. It is unlike any facial I have ever had before. I almost looked like I had a facelift! Ideally, I would have liked to have had a remodeling face machine treatment to really lift and tighten my skin, but again, I ran out of time!

While this may seem like a lot of effort to have beautiful skin, I honestly believe it is worth it! None of these treatments took very long—I often had to schedule them between patients. I had no downtime but felt each treatment really made a difference in my appearance. It was fun putting the effort in to achieve a Hollywood worthy glow!

Getting ready for your big event?

All of this is proof that even a busy professional can make noticeable improvements in their appearance with only 8 weeks of lead time prior to a special occasion. I looked and felt fabulous for this once-in-a-lifetime event thanks to Maryellen, Paul, Meg, Bisma, and the entire Artisan Beauté team.
