Mastopexy in Atlanta

We perform the combination augmentation + mastopexy in Atlanta at Northside Hospital as an outpatient procedure. After your surgery, we will release you into the care of a loved one to drive you home. Most of our patients return to office work and their regular routine one week after surgery, granted they refrain from heavy lifting or straining. Your surgeon will confirm when it is okay to return to your exercise routine or physical labor.

There are a few things you can do to prepare for your breast lift + augmentation in Atlanta:

• You’ll be under general anesthesia for the breast lift and augmentation, so you can’t eat after midnight the night before.
• You need to stop using all blood-thinning drugs or supplements for a period of at least 2 weeks before your operation.
• Have a friend take you home after your surgery.
• You can expect to need help the night after your surgery.

There are a few things you should do after your augmentation + mastopexy in Atlanta:

• Doctors recommend minimal activity for the first 5 to 7 days after surgery. You can resume light duty work for 1 week post-surgery.
• Refrain from sports or gym activity for the next 6 weeks unless directed otherwise by the medical team.
• Avoid raising your arms over shoulder level for 7 days. Otherwise, you can perform normal activities like brushing your teeth and hair after the procedure.
• Avoid lifting, pulling, or pushing anything heavier than 5 lbs for the next 3 weeks.
• Spend a week sleeping on your back with your head positioned higher than your heart. This reduces swelling.
• Following surgery, you’ll wake up in a surgical bra. Wear this bra constantly for a week, unless showering. Following the first week, you can choose to keep wearing the surgical bra or opt for a bra of your preference.
• You should wear a bra all day and night for 6 weeks, only taking it off for showers. Following 6 weeks, wear any bra, underwire included. To reduce swelling and stress on your incisions during recovery, wear a bra.
• All your sutures are dissolvable.
• Avoid alcohol for one week following your surgery, and until you stop taking pain medications or muscle relaxers.
• Breast massage instruction will begin three weeks post-surgery. This helps ensure your implants settle properly and avoids scar tissue formation.
• Perform breast massage once a day for one minute to each breast. This is most important in the first year post surgery. However, continue massaging the area for as long as you have the implants.
• If you have calf pain or swelling in one leg. This can be a sign of a blood clot requiring immediate attention.

You should be able to see results immediately following a breast lift + augmentation surgery; however, it will take up to 2 weeks to fully recover from the surgery, and longer for swelling to subside.
