What is breast augmentation procedure?
Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure where an implant is placed behind the breast tissue or under the muscle between the breast and the chest wall to enlarge and reshape the breasts for a more desired size.
Are You a Good Breast Augmentation Candidate?
We have helped many women in the Atlanta, GA area obtain their ideal breasts. To help our patients understand if they would benefit from breast augmentation surgery, we have compiled a short list of attributes shared by good candidates in Atlanta. These include:
- Have larger breasts for cosmetic reasons
- Enlarge their breasts after weight loss has affected the size and shape of their breast
- Regain the shape and size of their breasts after pregnancy or from normal aging
Our Atlanta cosmetic surgery specialists also believe that each individual needs to be in general good health and have reasonable expectations for their breast augmentation. Each patient’s candidacy is determined on an individual basis during a private consultation with one of our plastic surgeon specialists.
Where does the incision go for breast augmentation surgery?
Many incision sites have been used in the past, including those in the armpit, inside the belly button, and around the areola (colored patch of skin around the nipple). Doctors Diane Alexander and Bernadette Wang-Ashraf most commonly place a small, inconspicuous incision in the natural crease just underneath the breast for best result and scar camouflage. This incision is normally well-covered by a bra or bikini top. Our doctors discuss incision placement and surgical planning with you as part of your consultation. Silicone vs Saline Breast Implants
Currently in the United States, breast augmentation patients can choose between silicone and saline breast implants. Silicone breast implants are gel-filled prostheses. They are known for producing softer, more natural-looking results. Saline implants, on the other hand, are filled with a salt water solution, which causes no harm to the body in case of an implant rupture. While saline breast implants are the right choice for many patients, however, many do not produce aesthetic results comparable to those of silicone breast implants. One of our plastic surgeons will recommend the best implant for you during your consultation appointment. Our surgeons’ recommendations are generally based on your personal preference, desired look, and tissue availability.
