There are 2 things in my life that I never thought I would do–be diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 45 and pose in some French lingerie for a photograph.  In fact, both of these events were so foreign to me that not only did I need to do research about breast cancer, I needed to look up the spelling of “lingerie” in the dictionary.  As a mother of 2 boys I was more familiar with the spelling of linebacker and the details of baseball uniforms or soccer shin guards than I was with intricate and beautiful underwear.  This past year has been one of change–from learning to accept myself without hair to adapting to my new body after each successive surgery.  I have never regretted my decision to have a double mastectomy and am looking forward to my final procedure in a couple of weeks.  I guess breast cancer, sexy lingerie, and survivor are part of my new vocabulary.  Hello to the “new me!”
